Health Care Bill Passes - Plan B

Above the door leading out of the locker room in my high school was this sign: Winners Never Quit and Quitters Never Win. I may have the phrases flip flopped in the sentence, but the point is if you quit, you'll never ever win. It's impossible because you don't cross the finish line.

After the dust up last night where the Health Care Bill was passed by the House of Representatives, I'm now filled with even greater resolve. I'm not going to quit and you better not either.

Over the past few hours several have commented on other posts at this website. Some are filled with despair. I've gotten one email from a person who wants to run away and move to another country. Are you kidding me? The USA is the best country in the world. Never run away from problems. Run AT them full speed.

Here's what I don't understand. I've visited two different stores today. I talked to everyone that could fog a mirror. Not one was for the Health Care Bill. They are all depressed. I was too, but now that feeling is turning into power.

Here's what I can't comprehend. If I could find a person who was for the Health Care Bill I'd ask them:

Did you know that it was virtually impossible to read the bill, digest it and debate it in its entirety in the past 72 hours? Are you positive that your representative read the bill and understood it? Can you read a 500-page book in a weekend? The Health Care Bill was over 2,000 pages of legalize.

Do you think it's a good idea to go bankrupt? This bill will do it to our country in less than ten years.

Did you know that Massachusetts Health Care System is on life support? It's only because the Federal government has been transfusing it with cash that the state of Massachusetts has not already gone bankrupt. Don't believe me? Read what Cal Thomas has to say.

Did you know a vast majority of Americans were against the bill? The polls clearly show this. What do you have to say about a Congress that treats its constituents with such contempt? Oh, that's right, you're for the bill so you're thinking they did the right thing.

I could go on and on. As it is, my thoughts are disjointed.

But hear me now. I'll chase Carol Shea Porter, my House representative, to the gates of Hell for voting Yes on this Bill. I'll do everything in my power to ensure she's voted out of office on November 2, 2010. I'll work the polls for the best candidate that runs against her. I'll invest hundreds of dollars in ads. You name it, I'll do it.

If you feel as I do, then pledge now to get more involved and do whatever you can to help any candidate that's running against someone who voted Yes to the bill. It's time we did a hard reset on Congress.

Once we get the right team in DC, we then simply repeal this horrible bill. We've repealed Amendments to our Constitution, so repealing a bill is like shooting fish in a barrel. Make sure any person you vote for has put in writing before the election language that says they'll repeal this bill. Don't for a moment trust a verbal promise.

Comments

Tim is "right on" and possesses the proper attitude to turn this around. If we stick by our guns we can only make this country better by returning to the constitution and insure our votes are counted.

ALL A BUNCH OF CRAP. WHAT I SAY???? Sentence deleted by Tim Carter as not adding value.

We are Americans. This is the land where men conquered the untamed West, explored, built and did things the world had never seen before. We built railroads, roads, bridges and buildings that are the envy of the world. We have electricity everywhere and running water in even the poorest of homes. We don't have smelly open trenches in our streets to take away waste! None of that third world garbage exists here. We invented the automobile, the electric light bulb that does NOT, btw add to so called global warming and CHEESE WHIZ! Nowhere else on this planet was all that we have done possible because we have the WILL and the INGENUITY to get it done! This is the place where if a problem is put before us, we come, we see and we kick its butt. Why? Because we CAN! And because it's fun! We don't stop, hell, we don't even PAUSE when a challenge is before us. And when we are faced with adversity we adapt, we improvise and we overcome! WE FIND A WAY! And now we face a challenge not of nature, but of choice. One where the easy way is to hide in the darkness and be silent, or to light the candle of freedom and shine the way, YET AGAIN, for the whole world to see. Integrity and honor, or the lack thereof, is where we face our greatest challenge! It is what is within, not what is on the outside that makes us who we are. We have placed in office those who do not embody our beliefs that made this country what it is. They placed their own interest in front of those they are supposed to serve! To serve! There is no higher calling than to serve others and those that choose to serve themselves before those that sent them should be ashamed. But they are not! And they must go! Those monsters must be looked straight in the eye and told one word: "OUT!"

Christine McElrath on March 22, 2010 1:37 PM

Don't forget nearly HALF of our fellow citizens vote for this kind of garbage. The rest of the necessary votes are acquired by ACORN and States' Secretaries of State. There is a sizable bloc of politically apathetic types out there who CAN BE EDUCATED. Talking, arguing, writing letters to the editors is one way, but the most effective way I've seen is for engaged citizens to man the streetcorners with large, readable signs. Day in, day out, take to the streets.

Michael Cowan on March 22, 2010 1:39 PM

it is despicable that our representatives have no respect for the protesters and those who are not in favor of the health care bill. They knew this was their last shot at passing it since they will be voted out in November.

Linda Chiappetta on March 22, 2010 1:41 PM

My own Congresswoman, Shelley Moore Capito, voted against this piece of trash legislation. However, WV's other two reps, Mollohan and Rahall, voted for the health care bill. Anyone who has no respect for our Constitution or their constituents has no right to hold public office. I am putting my money AND time where my mouth is, and working to see them both defeated in November. We ALL MUST do this, if we want to save the Republic.

Joan Harman on March 22, 2010 1:53 PM

If 75% of the nation are against this bill, then how was it passed??? Defeatist groups like ACORN? How, ...how did they get this kind of power? Surely, they don't represent the average American!

Millie from Philly on March 22, 2010 2:00 PM

So, how come we Canadians have a universal health plan for our population of only 36 million people
and it works. The problem with your drug-companies is,that they are to avaricious. There must be a reason, that USA citicens ordering their drugs from Canada.

Henner Grimm on March 22, 2010 2:10 PM

I heard a call-in to WJR AM960 Detroit. What they are wanting people to do is find who voted for this bill, then find out who is running against them in the next election. If that new person is in favor of repealing this Health Care Bill, the support them with money to get elected, then send a copy of the donation you make to the person who you want out of office.

Let's go and make a difference at the ballot box. Remember, less than half the people wanted to fight the British during our (first revolution), more than half did not want this bill to pass.

Donald Cramer on March 22, 2010 2:10 PM

@Henner Grimm

Henner,

I believe there are quite a few Canadians that will be coming here pointing out the flaws in your system. I'm all for health care reform. All we had to do to get massive change was pass a law that stated that any insurance company could sell any policy to any person or business in any state. The free market will fill the vacuum that we currently have in the USA.

Tim Carter on March 22, 2010 2:14 PM

Freedom of choice has been taken from us. We must impart to the replacements we vote for in November that they face removal if they do not voice the will of the majority of the people that elected them. I know I will do my part on the way to "The Gates of Hell".

Gerald Davis on March 22, 2010 2:15 PM

It's obvious to me that the only reason this passed the House, by four votes, is because of bribery and/or threats of no backing by the Dem's in to those coming up for re-election in November! I am hopeful that it now doesn't get through the Senate but even if it does I am fairly positive it will be repealed because of the unconstitutional shenanigan's :-( We must all keep pushing for defeat!

They think that the people will fall into complacency like a bunch of dull-witted cattle. They believe that once they present all the ill gotten goodies to the people, we will ooooh and aaaah like a bunch of children. They believe it will be like Social Security and Medicare, that a little time will pass and we will turn into obedient entitlement junkies. Stoke your anger people, gird yourself for a long fight to save our country from the road to serfdom. This is war. Organize, participate, educate. It's time for real, sustained shock and awe!!!! They will NOT steal my country, the one shining light in the history of mankind that like no other before or since, enshrined personal freedom instead of concentrating power for the oppressive few. Do Not Tread On Me!

Chris on March 22, 2010 2:37 PM

I listened to Gary Knull on his radio show yesterday and he had all the information about how our government got so corrupt. As I understand it, it is those powerful people of The Roundtable, who have been in control for decades, not excluding our President, Obama, he is their puppet. It all boils down to money and greed. The media and newspaper just tell you a bunch of lies. It is going to take a spiritual miracle to clean house. What we have been doing has no effect, nobody listens to Us, little guys have to get stronger, maybe another Tea Party will help..

ELIE A. on March 22, 2010 3:01 PM

Hey, let's not forget the 60 Senators that comprised, voted for & sent this piece of trash legislation to the House. I know my 2 Senators did not vote for this, but 60 of them did. It may take us 6 years, but they all need to be voted out, too.

Jimmy Guthrie on March 22, 2010 3:09 PM

Congratulations America! For the first time in our history our government is forcing you to purchase a service/product simply because you have a heartbeat!

Everyone is crying about the uninsured or the underinsured. How about this take: If you have chosen not to get educated, learn a trade, or otherwise become a useful member of society, and you can't afford healthcare, there is a solution. I propose that you work 2 jobs at minimum wage so that you can afford it! Most of us chose to find a way to earn good money so that we could buy healthcare, and houses, and all of the other wonderful things that this great country makes available to us. The liberals keep insisting that part of my earnings go toward your expenses (subsidized housing, healthcare, etc.) Enough! If you won't become a contributing member of society, then you don't get to enjoy the fruits of MY LABOR! If you won't work to earn enough money to buy your needs, then you don't get your needs addressed! Why is our society not understanding that you have a right to PERSUE happiness, but there is no right to ACHIEVEMENT of happiness? If you won't work, then you fail. I don't give a rat's hind-end if you have healthcare or anything else. GET OUT OF MY WALLET!

Did you ever wonder why we have to pass drug tests to stay employed, but no one has to pass a drug test to collect a welfare check that is 100% our money in the form of taxes?

I am an immigrant to and a naturalized citizen of this great nation, and I've had enough. It is time for another American Revolution...

Mike on March 22, 2010 3:11 PM

I agree with Tim wholeheartedly. Yesterday may have been a very sad day for our great nation, but the USA is still a great nation. I am energized by the fact that more then half of the states in this Union, are planning to fight this themselves. They are planning lawsuits going straight to the Supreme Court. They are planning there own acts to ignore and overrule this bill. This fight is NOT over. Yesterday was declared a historical achievement. Well, lets give them a historical moment for the books in November when we speak out and removed as many as we can from office. we pay their wages, now lets fire them!

Seth Petro on March 22, 2010 3:51 PM

Good words Tim. I just wrote my congressman to thank him for voting against it (he's a Democrat, we are working on a new one for the next election, the local dry cleaner). I am against healthcare reform even though my son had a stroke 5 years ago and I cannot privately buy insurance for him. Yes, its a risk that my job with insurance is stable, but I'd rather have that than have my premiums and taxes skyrocket to pay for "reform".

Brian Kowald on March 22, 2010 4:18 PM

I first would like to comment to the Canadian who left a comment here that universal health care works in Canada. I'm Canadian and I can assure all that it is not working well. In fact, it is failing. I read a week ago from the Toronto Sun that the Premier of Ontario want a 'conversation' about it because costs are skyrocketing out of control! I moved to a smaller city last year and what once was our hospital can now be called nothing more than a 'walk in clinic'. No, this sort of thing will always eventually fail as all entitlement programs will. all of them.
It was disheartening to watch this process of corruption unfold for my U.S. friends. That was yesterday. Do not give up! Get energized. That woman, Pelosi said once this was passed it would be like kicking open the door to a host of other legislation. They have a bucket full of plans to fundamentally change your country. Fight like you life depends on it, because it does!
May God bless the Constitutional Republic of the United States of America.

Craig A. Mouldey on March 22, 2010 4:32 PM

Tim,

You're exactly right. What we have witnessed is a group of people who have started the end of our great representative republic.

They do not care about health care. That's obvious. They care about absolute power of the state, and eventually enslaving people to a single-payer. government controlled, health care system.

We need to get tham all out of office. This is just a start to what they want to do. Thanks for the Fire Pit. Joe

Joe Cotter on March 22, 2010 4:44 PM

Freedom and equality are not the same thing. We live in a land of the free. We could all be equal. If we were slaves we all would be equal. I would rather have to work and pay my own health insurance than be a slave. I want my place in this world to be determined by how hard I work, not by a government official. I am seventeen, I am a future leader of America, and I am determined to make America a better place by protecting people's freedom.

Edward Meyers on March 22, 2010 4:53 PM

When I turned 65 this last January, I told Social Security & Medicare that I didn't want Medicare (even though I didn't have any health care & have been paying my way since all of the time); I was told by both, that I din't have a choice & that they would charge me 10% fine. They never said what the 10% fine against me would be figured at; when I got disconneted (after waiting 30 mins on hold for them). I hate the passage of this health care in DC. I will bet that anyone in Congress & the White House with health plans are not included in this bill. Make them part of this bill & they will throw this out, as a bad bill.

Pamela on March 22, 2010 5:19 PM

Enough about healthcare.. We need to replace all our congress and the rest of our "parliment". Now we need to get our education system out of the 'paying for good / rigged grades.
Thank you for your time, ken.

ken bradford on March 22, 2010 5:38 PM

Last night, I missed viewing the actual vote on passage of the Health Reform Bill. I saw The Reverend Al Sharpton, when interviewed by Heraldo Rivera, state something to the effect 'The American People Want Socialism' and went on to say President Barack Obama told us what his agenda was to be.....as he stated publicly in 2007 the to the affect: 'in one year if president he would pass Universal Health Care. We saw Senator Stupack suddenly, at the eleventh hour vote yes, and proudly state It is the Democratic Party that values sanctity of life....Really Senator? It was only after an Executive Order from the president stating no pubic funds would come for abortions....Don't any of you ask why the far left is so quite, as they want abortion available?...This Executive Order has no standing legally....it is not a far leap of faith, to see this will not have any effect on abortion as written, and the far left knows this ...hence no outcry.

We were too caught up to see through the eloquent words, We did not really care about the record and emergence of an unknown Barack Obama who only had as experience an attorney for the social justice group Acorn, and a short stint as a State Senator from Illinois. We did not really care about his 'minor' associations with Bill Ayers, Reverend Wright, Sol Alinsky, Obama's teaching classes at University Chicago on Social Justice and his associations with other academic professors such as Columbia professor's Cloward- Piven who taught a theory for change, by overwhelming the system ...We did not take heed when we heard the then candidate Barack Obama state he really questioned our Constitution's interpretation/meaning....Based on all this background, he is now the most powerful man in the world.
We did not care.
Only since the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the Declaration of War with the Empire of Japan, have I seen a more troubling time. Instead of uniting our country as then, we are now at war within ourselves.
This truly is historic and in many ways a war. A war for the values and virtues of our Fondling Fathers, based on The Constitution of The United States of America....Or, could our direction be based on a Progressive left leaning European Style Socialism? With what we have all seen too date, it is not a far leap of faith to call it what it is...We will know more when we see the next 'Crisis' for a Cap & Trade Bill and the Senate vote, will be bypassed as it will be placed under mandate and control of existing EPA.
Our current system of government is broken. Our Constitution's meaning is being perverted and twisted. Our National debt is on the verge of fiscal collapse and of no return.
We can all agree our health care needs vast improvement, but why throw out the whole system and create this massive monster especially during these economic times....Could not we take these issues head on in a truly bipartisan way..not behind closed doors, all by one party, not with all the bribes...not take over a year with infighting among the very Democrats crafting this? If this bill is so good what has taken so long to accomplish...Why all the sleazy deals and outright corruption? This is not just a quid pro quo and corruption as standard Washington fare...this involves a massive overhaul of our way of governing.
So, what do we Americans want? A Massive Central Government that directs what is to be? Or do we want the Will of The People to decide?
We will know for sure come November 2010

Richard Coppola on March 22, 2010 6:27 PM

All of these people took an oath to uphold the Constitution. Does a violation of this oath constitute treason? I believe it does. Bringing charges of treason might be another avenue to restore this country. One public hanging in the Washington Mall, and the rest will be snapping to attention and representing their constituents in no time.

Roger on March 22, 2010 6:28 PM

We all know that the majority of Americans don't want this monster of a Bill. In my opinion even though this bill is not wanted by most of American, some of us are quite content to sit back and let the next guy or gal do the work of contacting the representatives in Washinton. I heard on TV this morning and I paraphrase (A country can not fall if the people pay attention to what their leaders are doing) After Pearl Harbor a Janapese Admiral said something to the effect that he feared that they had awakened a sleeping giant. I believe that America has been sleeping. I also believe that this Country has finally awakened. I also believe that there are a lot of things that are going to change in this Country at the polls this fall.

Bob Neveux on March 22, 2010 6:53 PM

Boy, from reading these posts you would think the Russians just invaded the East Coast. This isn't the end of the world teabag people, nor is it the great apocalypse you fear. Is something this large costly, you bet, is it a government takeover, heck no. Even though the CBO says it will reduce the deficit do I believe that for a second, not really, but the fundamentals of a basic human right to get care when you're sick should not be a for-profit business should it? Should you need to go bankrupt because of an illness? Should a company be able to drop you because you're not their "ideal client"? This is basic human decency we are talking about. Some things simply shouldn't be about making profit. But according to you folks does that me me a socialist? It makes me human. Personally I'd love to see some of the anger directed at the white house for the banking fiasco. Where is the regulation? Now there is a subject I could get behind all the fury on. The fact that new rules are being made for the corrupted health care system, Big Insurance and Big Pharma are sorely needed. Sorry, I have no sympathies there and I'm glad the government finally did something about it. Continuing to do nothing was not an option to me.

TAngell on March 22, 2010 7:03 PM

You can be sure that I will vote in November for only those I can trust to get every Democrat who supported this health care plan our of office. I also will back those who will repeal this health care plan. Of course, all of this depends on how long the Lord lets me stay on this earth. If I am in Heaven, I will not have to worry about this heath care plan, but I am concerned about what it will do to our country and the effect it will have on generations to come, which include my children, grandchildren and my great-grandchildren. Keep plugging, Tim. You are an encouragement.

Marge Ahlgrim on March 22, 2010 7:31 PM

Tim, I support you all the way.
TAngell...Yes, to me this is vitally important.. My Country is at stake. Reposting my earlier long comment as I left out some issues, and because MA BAD..I did not Preview First!
Last night, I missed viewing the actual vote on passage of the Health Reform Bill. I saw The Reverend Al Sharpton, when interviewed by Heraldo Rivera, state something to the effect "The American People Want Socialism" and went on to say President Barack Obama told us what his agenda was to be.....as he stated publicly in 2007 to the affect: 'in one year if president, he would pass Universal Health Care. We saw Senator Stupak suddenly, at the eleventh hour vote yes, and proudly state It is the Democratic Party that values sanctity of life....Really Senator? It was only after an 'Executive Order' from the president stating no pubic funds would come for abortions....Don't any of you ask why the far left is so quite, as they want abortion available?...This Executive Order has no standing legally....it is not a far leap of faith, to see this will not have any effect on abortion as written, and the far left knows this ...hence no outcry.

We were too caught up to see through the eloquent words, We did not really care about the record and emergence of an unknown Barack Obama, who only had as experience an attorney for the social justice group Acorn, and a short stint as a State Senator from Illinois. We did not really care about his 'minor' associations with Bill Ayers, Reverend Wright, Sol Alinsky, Obama's teaching classes at University Chicago on Social Justice and his associations with other academic professors such as Columbia professors Cloward- Piven, who taught a theory for 'social change', by overwhelming the system ...We did not take heed when we heard the then candidate Barack Obama state he really questioned our Constitution's interpretation/meaning....Based on all this background, he is now the most powerful man in the world.
We did not care.
Only since the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the Declaration of War with the Empire of Japan, have I seen a more troubling time. Instead of uniting our country as then, we are now at war with ourselves.
This truly is historic, and in many ways a war. A war for the values and virtues of our Fonding Fathers, based on The Constitution of The United States of America....Or, could our direction be based on a Progressive left leaning European Style Socialism? With what we have all seen too date, it is not a far leap of faith to call it what it is...We will know more when we see the next 'Crisis' for a Cap & Trade Bill and the Senate, will be bypassed as it will be placed under the mandate and control of existing EPA....Also will come, the Illegal Immigration issue.
Our current system of government is broken. Our Constitution's meaning is being perverted and twisted. Our National debt is on the verge of fiscal collapse and of no return.
We can all agree our health care needs vast improvement, but why throw out the whole system and create this massive monster, especially during these economic times....Could not we take these issues head on, in a truly bipartisan way..not behind closed doors, all by one party, not with all the bribes...not take over a year with infighting among the very Democrats crafting this? If this bill is so good, what has taken so long to accomplish?...Why all the sleazy deals and outright corruption? This is not just a quid pro quo and corruption as standard Washington fare...this involves a massive overhaul of our way of governing.
So, what do we Americans want? A Massive Central Government that directs what is to be? Or do we want the Will of The People to decide?
We will know for sure come November 2010
REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!

Richard Coppola on March 22, 2010 7:43 PM

I keep thinking of the line from the last "Star Wars" prequel - "So this is how liberty dies - with applause and cheers".

I fully intend to vote against my current congressman and senator (heck, I didn't vote for them LAST time!). Even if we succeed at that though, how do we undo this?

Lenin said:
“Medicine is the keystone of the arch of socialism” and “The goal of socialism is communism.”

We are watching this unfold before are very eyes

Urge your State Representatives to pass the Health Care Nullification Bill - using the 10th amendment.
(The 10th is the cornerstone of the Constitution)
Over 12 states have initiated this legislation as of today.
All fellow Patriots would be wise in letting their State Representatives know that they will solidly stand side by side with them as the State Run Media will ridicule & portray these Legislaturers as common rabble rousers. The Fed of course will play their State Federal Funding Card, but if a majority of the states band together, then they can pass Legislation that denies the Fed Gov. what they covet most Tax Revenue !

Also Must Do's > Get rid of Nafta - Gatt - give USA companies tax incentives to bring their manufacturing back to our Shores & Help our Economy - Sorry but I don't care about helping China - India - Mexico No More!

And Remove all Programmable Voting Machines & replace with Paper Ballots counted by you & Me

Just a few weeks ago our congressman, Allen Boyd of Florida, told us he was NOT voting for the bill, then the Friday before the vote I learn he has flip-flopped. WOW, what a surprise..NOT. Well, he fooled me once, so shame on him. He will NOT fool me twice. I'm waiting to see who will be running against him in the Fall and will exercise the real way to do term limits, vote HIM OUT ! I'm a once retired (went back to work) deputy sheriff and I should have been able to spot someone who might not be telling me the truth. Silly, stupid me, I believed he was going to do the right thing. Won't happen again and I keep my promises. Keep hope alive Tim and thanks for your insight and great website.

To: T Angell

You’re right about Russians as in Marxist Government. Fear nothing but ignorance and those who can vote without reading it. Understand. My question to you is have you read the bill? Your answer is obviously NO. It’s apparent you know nothing about history repeating itself, which is self-evident in your post. Tell everyone where you found this in the constitution as a basic human right. You also tell everyone what immigrant or citizen has been denied medical treatment. If health care weren’t for-profit we wouldn’t have the best. Do you want third world care? Also where does it say education is a constitutional human right. When you can understand what the definition of fiat money is you will understand where things are going for the banking industry, a world bank and New world Order.

Michael

Michael on March 22, 2010 8:49 PM

My comments. Did you read the bill in its entirety? Did Glen, Rush Sean or any of the other talking heads that are so opposed to this bill? The answer is no... It is just as wrong to form a no opinion or vote no on something you have not read as it is to form a yes opinion.

Technically, the US cannot go bankrupt. It has the printing press. But I know what you mean. No one wants the USA to go bankrupt but we are heading there and not because of this bill. We are heading there because of previously passed entitlements like Medicare and Social Security.

I don't know much about the Mass Healthcare system so I won't comment on it except to ask you -- Other than the term "Health Care" what are the similarities to the one just passed.

Finally. Politicians have contempt for everyone that does not write them a big check. They have no morals. Many many of the ones that voted against this bill because it cost so much are the same people that voted for medicare prescription drugs in 2004. That one was completely unfunded... and will go much further to bankrupting the US that this one will.

John C. on March 22, 2010 10:44 PM

I am so frustrated. I live in Utah...and bless all three of our Representatives for voting no, including our democrat. I have not talked to one person that supported this garbage legislation. What can a person do outside of their state to help overturn this huge fiscal steel trap that is about to come snapping shut on us?

Kevin Brown on March 23, 2010 12:00 AM

Along with the unfunded prescription drug deal of 2004, John C., you could also add all the unfunded tax cuts and "supplementals" for the Iraq fiasco. At least now with this Health Care Bill, we are investing in ourselves, in lieu of "building Burger Kings in Bagdad" to support Bush,Cheney, and Rumsfelt in their personal ill-conceived "on the job training program" in military strategy.

Tim,

Thank you so much for the encouragement. Americans need to wake up and become informed and ACT ON THAT INFORMATION! We all need to become activists on the local level; I encourage everyone to begin attending local city and school meetings. We must learn all we can and influence the way our country is headed.

Thank you again

Pam on March 23, 2010 8:16 AM

Tim, i sent you so comments yesterday concerning this attack on our freedoms. I wore a green uniform for a period of time--long enough to know we must defend our country on every turn. One of the comments you received quiried" how did this happen"--unfortunately the answer is easy--we became complacent--remember when we were children the reasoning of "let George do it". This was a way of exzcusing ourselves form using our power as American citizens --of backing off issues to hopefully let someone else pick up the problem solving of the issue at hansd. I hope all of us finally realize it is our duty to handle the issues and let our voices be heard. We must speak out continously to be heard. The poloticians are banking on the fact that we will be quiet and let it all slip through our fongers WRONG they have just learned we are listening and can be very vocal. My fear is that we will begin to forget the rteasons we are not very angry as we near the fall elections. I urge you/ beg you to keep stiring the pot , to constsantly remind all of us, that we must make our voices heard and remind us that the way to do it is to SCREAM at our representativesa. If they are Democrats vote them out. I was a Democrate for years but can no longer trust them--no matter what they say. So , a challange to all who have written to you within the past week. Dear friends--keep the message going each and every week tto all of those on your e-mail list. Back the Republican party--of Yes, they have made mistakes in the past but we know what the Democrats will do if we give them the opportunity. All of us can get information both from Tim and a web saite named Heritaghe.com. i urge you to subscribe to this one--itsa $25 a year to join. Not only do they supply you with current and correct information but they footnote their sources. This is important so that when you speak about the issues with you friends or e-mail them you haver proof of what you are saying. We can prov ewhat we believe--not trry to read a 2000 page bill in one weekend and pretend they understand. My friends--enoughof believing what you are told--go tell all of you friends the truth. DO NOT BE AFRAID--NEVER.

Ward Robinson on March 23, 2010 12:02 PM

Today in the White House which I am sure will be full of pagentry, handshakes, and back-slaps. The Democrat Party Leadership, with Barack Obama pen in hand will once again take away some of your freedom. Today for the first time in American history a President of the United States of America will sign into law a requirement that you shall buy something even if you do not think you or your family needs it.

Oh yes many on the left side of the aisle will argue "this is good for them". They will argue that there are so many benefits contained in this bill which totals over 2700+ pages, that this will solve all of the healthcare problems in this country. They will say how this bill will "make it fair" so far as health insurance is concerned. But, I ask you seriously at what cost?

Is giving your freedom away worth about $3,000 dollars? Is giving up the right to choose worth about $3,000 dollars? Is setting a precedent for the Government to TELL you what you need worth about $3,000 dollars?

Yes there are people out in our society who need help. We need a more fair insurance industry policy. We need to have competition among all of the insurance companies. But, do we need it this way?

This isn't about healthcare Ladies and Gentlemen. This is about control, power, money, and making you subservient to the Government. Wake up before it is too late.

Christine McElrath on March 23, 2010 12:18 PM

Tim, keep the fires burning my friend. We are with you all the way regardless of how people like Tokem or anyone else might think. Two wrongs do not make a right. The politicians who sold out to commit this atrocity against this country will find out soon enough that with the people returning to God's principles that this country and its' people will once again become a great and prosperous nation "under GOD" and they (the politicians) will be left behind. GOD's purposes will not be destroyed by man. Our country will, by GOD's grace survive if its' people return to GOD's principles as we are attempting to do in spite of all the ridicule from the Obamanites and the left wingers.

Larry Manning on March 23, 2010 12:34 PM

During the past year, our government has indebted us, our children, and their children, to trillions of dollars of debt to China, rewarded big businesses for bankrupting their companies, and passed sweeping legislation against the will of the people. No one would believe that it could happen here and now it has.......but this is NOT the end! Regardless of your politics, PLEASE get involved. Vote, attend rallies, hold rallies, write blogs, involve friends, do everything you can to ensure that this land will stay for the people, of the people, and by the people!
We have relinquished control of our government to others - It's time to get it back!

To answer the Canadian who asked why we are able to order drugs from Canada cheaper, it is because the US companies invest large sums in developing the drugs and must recoup their costs. With price controls as I understand this bill does, in a short time there will be now drugs for us to order from Canada. If the drug companies cannot charge to compensate for their research and development time, they will simply quit doing it.

What most of the people posting comments fail to realize is that the United States is the only industralized nation that doesn't have universal health care. We have the best hospitals in the world and yet we also have one of the highest rates of preventable deaths. What does that say about our country? I for one would much rather get rid of our military and use that money to see that I don't have neighbors going bankrupt or dying needlessly.

First of all, most people did not pay attention to what Obama was saying...even I missed some of his statements and I was paying close attention and knew what he was.
Second we must get informed about who all these people are and where they come from. Obama and the rest of the Democrats who voted for this legislation are now proud to be "Progressives" because "Liberals" are dirty nasty people. The truth is, "Liberals" and "Progressives" are the same thing and they blur the party lines because even the Republican party has "Progressives" in it, I mean look at what John McCaine's daughter said in an interview recently, she told the interviewer that she is a "Republican Progressive" and these people do not like the U.S Constitution and will usurp it when it bennefits them.
Third we need to understand that our RIGHTS are granted only by the authority of GOD! No government can grant anyone rights, and if they claim to do so they also hold the power to take those rights away.
What we need to do is pay attention to the language, things like "Social Justice" is Progressive code for Socialism, spreading the wealth around. Vote out every congressman/woman who has a D next to their names and vote for a truely Conservative candidate. We need to stand up and fight for the things that makes this country the best country in the world. Sure our healthcare system has its problems, but we don't replace an entire engine because it has a few seals leaking do we? We definately do not want to turn into Canada or any country in Europe with their long lines and poor care, I mean who wants to wait 45+ days for an MRI when we can get people in depending on what is wrong with them, in a matter of a few hours to a week. Lets get out there and fight and do what we need to do to restore our country to what the Founding Fathers created.

Today, I just want to thank our troops again for defending freedom, and doing it by volunteering. God Bless Our Troops!

"Pacific" is advertised to be on T.V. shortly. My Dad was a survivor from the sinking of the U.S.S. Juneau. He had been in Europe, and been sent straight to the Pacific. My husband's father was bumped up rank and was a P.T. boat commander.

As a military Mom today, I just want to say that I intend to make it well worth my fathers' sweat and blood, and my son's service today, by getting off my tukus, and fighting for our country with everything I've got. That will be my way of saying "thank you for our freedom". Let's be informed, and not stop the momentum, too many suffered for us to wilt and give in to complacency. Like my Mother used to say, "It's time to pull up our bootstraps, and get on."

connie mahany on March 24, 2010 8:48 AM

I just want to know if the representatives in the 14 states that have filed legal suit against the bill voted for it, what are the states doing about their positions?

Barbara on March 24, 2010 12:15 PM

John C - statistics are easy to fudge. I'd guess that a large number of those "preventable" deaths in the U.S. are due to obesity-related diseases, which has nothing to do with the quality of healthcare, but more to do with our culture of laziness, waste, debauchery, lack of personal accountability, and immediate satisfaction. If someone just didn't seek care for their disease, then that's hardly the system's fault. While you bring up some valid points, comparing the U.S. to Candada, which has 1/10 our population is, quite frankly, absurd. Secondly, a Vet who makes comments like "get rid of our military" is alarming. Our strong national defense is the one of the reasons we are able to have things like the best hospitals in the world.

Chip on March 24, 2010 2:31 PM

Tim, I appreciate the efforts you are making here, to advocate for your viewpoint on our current political situation. It's good to hear others echoing your sentiments. It gives me courage and incites me to get involved.

For me, while I think the Obamacare program is badly flawed and very bad policy, I can respect arguments from those who disagree with me.

But the process used to achieve the passage of this bill sickens me. What a basterdization of the Constitution of the United States. What a shameless example of graft, greed, corruption and contempt for our people and our political ideals. Watching these politicians at work makes me want to vomit.

But here's the thing... I have zero faith that the current Republicans, given an issue considered essential to them, would not do exactly the same thing.

I say, to hell with them all. We must find candidates that have moral character, vision and the courage to follow the vision of the framers of our constitution. I do not know where to find these people.

Joe Engel on March 24, 2010 3:57 PM

@Henner Grimm on March 22, 2010 2:10 PM:

As with many of the proponents of our healthcare plan, you present rather superficial (and disingenious) arguments for your position.

The program that "works" for your country apparently isn't working. If it were, then why did your Premier Danny Williams choose to come to the US for his recent surgery?

Also, your commentary regarding drug companies is misplaced. You should be thankful that all US citizens aren't buying drugs through Canada pharmacies -- then who would be subsidizing the development cost of innovative drug treatments for freeloaders like you?

KJ Green on March 24, 2010 4:02 PM

I urge you all NOT to obsess about repealing this legislation. Don't vote for the first Tom, Dick or Sally that cries "REPEAL".

After the changes in November we will have a real opportunity to enact tort reform legislation and to enact legislation that will allow selling across State lines and other measures that address the costs of healthcare.
I think we can also enact some legislation that attacks the deficit.

This will only be possible if we elect intellegent, well informed people that think independently and not along straight party lines. Many Rebublicans as well as Democrats need to be replaced.

PS to Chip: I think you have me confused with someone else. While I strongly believe with your description of the American lifestyle AND that obesity is the number one cause of preventable deaths, I also believe that obese people drive up the cost of healthcare. Many, many trips to the doctor and pharmacy to get them thru life.
I have not compared our healthcare system to Canada or advocated getting rid of the military.

John C. on March 24, 2010 4:15 PM

QUOTE FROM ABOVE: Did you know a vast majority of Americans were against the bill? The polls clearly show this. What do you have to say about a Congress that treats its constituents with such contempt? Oh, that's right, you're for the bill so you're thinking they did the right thing.

THIS IS NOT TRUE. A Gallup Poll taken March 23, 2010 shows 49% say passage of the Healthcare Bill was a good thing, 40% say it was a bad thing and 11% had no opinion.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/126929/slim-margin-americans-support-healthcare-bill-passage.aspx

Robert, Now now, you're comparing apples and oranges. All the surveys and polls BEFORE the vote were against it. Your poll was AFTER the passage and if you peel back WHO they polled, guess what? It was Democrats. President Obama's base was happy that he finally came through on his campaign promise. But note in your numbers that not even a majority of his supporters favor it.

Not to worry. The 100+ agencies called for in the law won't get funded by the 112th Congress, and in 2013 the law will be repealed. You can quote me on that if you like. - Tim Carter - Founder, www.TimCartersFirePit.com

Robert Smith on March 24, 2010 10:24 PM

I am trying to find out when a lot of the new healthcare bill package starts to hit. My sister, in the Insurance Industry, told me, "pre-existing" hits in January, 2011. Also, that is when the insurance premiums are supposed to sky rocket. There won't be the increase in premiums until AFTER Novemeber elections. Saying the Insurance premiums haven't gone up will be used as part of the campaign stratedgy in November.

connie mahany on March 25, 2010 8:50 AM

QUOTE FROM ABOVE: But note in your numbers that not even a majority of his supporters favor it.

Tim, not sure what you mean by this. From the same survey, Democrats are 79% to 9% in favor. Independents even favor the healthcare bill, albeit by a very slight margin of 46% to 45%.

Robert, Your original post said 49% in favor. That's not a majority. Did I misread that?

Robert Smith on March 25, 2010 9:19 AM

QUOTE FROM ABOVE: Robert, Your original post said 49% in favor. That's not a majority. Did I misread that?

Tim, my original post never mentioned a majority. However, an overwhelming majority of Democrats (79% to 9%) DO favor it in the latest Gallup Poll. Your post did say that "an overwhelming majority were against the bill" which is incorrect.

Regardless, I predict that the percentage of Americans in favor of the healthcare bill will continue to increase as time goes on.

Robert, look at the numbers. You said 49%. A majority would be 51%, Go to Rasmussen to see the polls prior to Sunday's vote. I hate to say this, but you're wrong. Nearly 69% of the people polled by Rasmussen were against the bill.

Are you telling me you're happy with Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid being insolvent? If so, then I understand completely why you would think all of us would be happy with the unconstitutional bill that was passed.

November 2, 2010 is just around the corner. That will validate what I'm saying. Would you like to place a wager here in public about the outcome? I'm ready to. I'll wager that you'll see conservatives take back control of the House and possibly the Senate. What say you?

Robert Smith on March 25, 2010 10:25 AM

Joe Engel hits the nail on the head! Please re-read his post here. It's the political process that is the enemy here, not so much the content of what is being done. Republicans and Democrats alike agreed on 80% of this bill, let's not forget that. I firmly believe it's the process, that Joe points out, that makes most Americans want to poke themselves in the eye with a blunt stick. He is spot on, Republicans would use the same tactics if the shoe were on the other foot to push their agenda and don't try to kid yourself that they wouldn't. In fact, they have been feeding off the fervor over healthcare and fanning the flames all along. Look at what they are doing today, basically shutting down goverment to make their point. It comes across like a child who didn't get their way. The lawsuits will get dismissed as almost every consititutional lawyer that has looked at this state that the lawsuits being filed by AG's will not hold up as they have already stood up to this argument in the past. Hopefully over time all the bugs will get worked out, any legal gamesmanship will be flushed out and the budgetary concerns will be addressed and we can go about fixing other major issues this great country faces. So put down your muskets and pitchforks, vote out career politicians in November (see GOOOH Party)of either party that you don't agree with and help rebuild America!

Tom Angell on March 25, 2010 11:50 AM

Time for Plan C:

The healthcare campaign must become "Replace," not just "Repeal" or "win back some seats and refuse to fund Obama care."

Most people, regardless of political labels, believe some level of health care reform is necessary. The Democrats and the media are trying to say Republicans and Tea Party followers don't care about unfortunate people who cannot afford health care. We are not "the party of no," we are the party of "Do it right." We do need voter support from independents and democrats regarding health care and other major issues to save our country.

Candidates opposed to Obama, who want to win, must take control of this issue by publishing an alternate health plan that is affordable, helps the people who need it the most, and includes our key provisions Obama ignored and even keep the few provisions in the current law that could be retained. This should be a bipartisan replacement bill, despite the lack of Democrat cooperation, that demonstrates caring and fiscal responsibility.

The November elections are too far away to assume that a voting majority is permanently in place to restore our core values. Even a true victory in November will only be a threshhold that has to be improved upon in 2011 and 2012. The long term plan will also depend upon candidates elected this year living up to their promises.

Robert Tingler on April 14, 2010 12:27 AM

For my money..... and as someone who's had their parents in european health care for the last 34 years (they retired to Spain) I gotta say the sooner we have universal federal health care the better. The health insurance monopoly is bleeding us dry and they are funding all their scare adds with our money.

The sooner we get out of the "for profit" health care game the better of we'll be.

People screem thoughtlessly about federal take overs, etc, but there ate SOME things the government should be responsible for. I'm not advocating bigger government or more government, I'm advocating SMARTER government.

In France 4% of what they pay for health care goes for administrative costs..... in the USA its 17%.
I also agree that tort reform should be part of the mix.....far too many tests are called for by doctors who have to cover themselves.
But also doctors need to police themselves......50% of law suits are against 5% of the doctors (what does that tell you?)

My parents got excellent care in Europe.....more "no frills" than here maybe, but just as good and in many cases better.......and they made house calls too! LOL
