Obama's Occupation - Alien Rule

Robert Weissberg is is Professor of Political Science-Emeritus, University of Illinois-Urbana. He recently wrote a provocative essay about describing the feeling many have about the Obama presidency. I'd say he's fairly well qualified to render an opinion in that his expertise is political science and he hails from Obama's home state of Illinois.

When you carefully read Professor Weissberg's essay, you can see where he's coming from. Lately I've tried to describe to friends why many of us collectively have this discomfort.

For decades we had politicians who understood the American people. They tended to make small changes that didn't upset most of us. The changes were often so slight, we didn't even notice.

But Obama has been making radical changes. Many people don't like this. When you try to come up with similar situations you can see why the professor likens our current situation here in the USA to an occupation by an unfriendly force.

We'll discover if he's right and if I'm close on November 2, 2010. I'll take a nap that day as I absolutely will stay up late watching the West Coast results come in.

Great essay by Weissberg. What a difference a year makes - last year Congressional Democrats worshiped the ground Obama walked on, stumbling over each other to sign any legislation he wanted, against the wishes of a majority of American voters. Now, realizing that many of them are going to join the ranks of the millions of unemployed in November, it's "Obama who?" He can try many wierd things, but he will never take away the great equalizer, our vote.

I HOPE YOU ARE RIGHT BUT I THINK THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS ARE VOTING STUPID AND WE ARE IN TROUBLE
PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG AS I LOVE AMERICA AND BELIEVE IN GOD

Unfortunately I'm afraid we have passed the tipping point and too many are already bought off. Our best hope is they won't show up in Nov. and there will be enough workers who do to take back the country. Keep the n'er do wells at home if you can.

Hello. I will read the essay at another time, I promise. However first I want to add something to any who are fearful and sad that it may be too late. We as Americans who are coming together from all over this nation must continue the fight for what we believe is the Truth and what We believe is America. We must not be compromised, Diluted, nor diverted, for it is not about any one person but for a dream, and ideal that was formed by imperfect men and in which gave birth to America. "I have A Dream" as Martin Luther King stated many years ago, and I saw it live, some of you may have as well. Maybe we should consider that statement again from the current "Change We Can Believe"
Know that you are not alone...Do not be allowed to express in rage or react negativily as this would be playing right into the hands of the status quo. Do not run either, but stand firm, stand united and 'mean what you say and say what you mean' United under one Code of ethics/standards and positions ....The American People will respond.

Some may not have heard this, but I did Sunday. While I do not know all the specifics involved I do find it very interesting...see my comment below that I have sent early this a.m., to many at Fox News and Newt Gingrich. My comment sent to many:
It was announced from British news 7/25/10, that Britain will now decentralize its health system saving millions and cutting regulations and agencies....and placing the care decisions back into the hands of local doctors. The British National Health Plan is very much loved/admired by the newly appointed Dr. Berwick, who President Obama appointed to head the agency when he by-passed Congress on a weekend, and quite possibly to avoid harsh questioning from Congress. That is President Obama's right to do so as others also have done in past.
I wonder what he (Dr. Berwick) would now think about this new change about to begin in Britain?...I wonder also what President Obama thinks about this current move in Britain with his plan's creation of over 250 new agencies, a cost of at least a trillion dollars, and finally the involvement of the IRS. Interesting to see what spins are to come....Robert Gibbs are you listening?

Frédéric Bastiat: “And now that the legislators and do-gooders have so futilely inflicted so many systems upon society, may they finally end where they should have begun: May they reject all systems, and try liberty; for liberty is an acknowledgment of faith in God and His works.”

“Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all.”

I read the professor's essay and I find that even so called educated people can get caught up in the emotion of their believes and miss the point. We as a hole are always so quick to blame others for the condition of our country. We are to blame for everything that happens to us because as a whole we allow it to happen. We allow our government to be run as if anything goes. Our politicians believe that every law they purpose is an opportunity to either line their pockets with money or their constituents. Why do we believe it is acceptable to allow laws that are needed to be written with all sorts of garbage legislation and graft attached. If it is a good law it should be past on its own merits, and if not it should not pass. Even in business we blame the top 5% of the of a companies management for taking most of the companies wealth with outrageous salaries and benefit packages, for performances reduce the values of our companies. I do mean our companies, since most of these are own by us through our stocks,401K, and/or pension funds. Its fine to earn a lot of money as long as you have earned it. To me though if a company is shrinking in size or laying off workers the company is not doing well and no one should be get bonuses. We need to get together and use our stock vote and they way we purchase things that rewards need to be based on honest positive results not what they think they can get away with, because they think no one is watching. We also need to start to think for our self, instead of believing everything we hear in the news which is driven by rating (Money) and not necessarily all of the facts. Also everyone should stop believing as fact what they find on the inter net. Most of what is out there and presented as facts are wrong or bent to fit the agenda of the writer. ( including this post ) Take a look at http://www.factcheck.org/ or http://www.snopes.com/ if your looking for some insight, but please use your head and judge everything for your self. This is a great country because it was founded on the right of everyone to believe, say, and pursue whats in their hearts. The only true danger to us are the people who believe they are the only ones that know who should have these rights. We are in trouble since we have seemed to have forgotten that when we each prosper we all prosper and that when one of us looses we all lose. Because when they can't make ends meet the rest of us have to pick up the slack, which reduces our ability to do what we would like. Lets remember that our country prospered on ingenuity and start encouraging the sciences and hard work. Lets think before we speak or act and then act with conviction. Thanks for the opportunity to vent a bit.

I like the way you say "For decades we had politicians who understood the American people. They tended to make small changes that didn't upset most of us. The changes were often so slight, we didn't even notice". That is certainly true of human psychology. Believe me though, the workers in Detroit noticed as their say in what happened with their companies was undermined and their jobs shipped elsewhere. That was supposed to be "good business" and certainly increased the company profits for a while (most of which went to the directors and top investors). But it wasn't necessarily a good long term plan. Now the stuff has hit the fan, and, yes, we have some tougher decisions to make.
Sorry.
I notice that the article doesn't really address any of Obama's policies except via casual reference. It is just a long diatribe saying "I don't like him, he ain't like me".
The article states, "No doubt, millions of Indians and Africans probably grasped that expelling the British guaranteed economic ruin and even worse governance, but at least the mess would be their mess." Really. For such a "distinguished professor", he has a sub-6th grade view of history. Historical documents show that the primary reason for the revolutionary war was that that the Native Americans had treaties with England to limit the spread of the colonies to east of the Appalachians. Then English, unlike us Americans, honored the treaties they wrote and prevented further colonization. Taxation without representation was more a code for "keeping me from taking more from those savages" than it was about tax on tea. This is why the original perpetrators of the tea party dressed up as native Americans as they committed the somewhat random act of vandalism. I don't think the natives or the Africans were asked for their opinion at the time.
Sorry to be contrary in your fire pit, but I see wholesale rejection of every thing going on in Washington as more a threat to good things happening than it is preventing bad things. I think some of the changes are very promising, especially for small and medium sized businesses, you know, the working Americans that don't have lobbyists.

All Americans are duty bound to the Constitution. All politicians must pledge to it before taking office. Anyone who acts contrary to the Constitution and their pledge is a traitor, plain and simple. The mass of sleazy lawyer politicians who have been elected and ignore the Constitution should be prosecuted as traitors.
The Constitution is our benevolent dictator. We must protect it at all costs.
